Wildfire Risk Assessment

What Is A Wildfire Risk Assessment?

A wildfire risk assessment is a professional evaluation of your property’s wildfire vulnerability, covering vegetation, structures, terrain, access, and water supply. You receive a prioritized action plan to act on before fire season. Red Lion assesses residential, commercial, estate, vineyard, winery and HOA properties across Napa, Solano and Contra Costa counties.

Every Assessment Covers

What A Wildfire Risk Assessment Covers

Whether it’s a winery in Napa, a home in Solano or a commercial site in Contra Costa, every Red Lion assessment is built around how a home and its immediate surroundings interact with fire, focusing on minimizing ignition potential. These assessments primarily focus on the Home Ignition Zone (HIZ) and cover four major areas.

Fuel

Vegetation type, density and continuity. How fire would move across your property if it arrived tomorrow.

Structures

Ember vulnerability, roofing, vents, decks and siding. Where a single spark could turn a near-miss into a total loss.

Topography

Slope, aspect and wind corridors. The geography that dictates how fast and how hot fire will reach you and when.

Access & Water

Roads, driveways, hydrants, tanks and pond drafting. Whether crews can defend the property or only retreat from it.

Every assessment is delivered online in partnership with Fire Aside

Property Type

Wildfire Risk Assessments By Property Type

Fire risk looks different on a hillside vineyard in Napa than it does on a suburban home in Contra Costa or a commercial site in Solano. Each county is affected by weather, topography and vegetation. Each community or neighborhood is affected by seasonal weather, historical wildfires, and microclimates. Select the closest match to your property to learn about how each assessment is specialized for your particular property.

Wildfire Risk Assessment FAQ

Wildfire risk assessments are unfamiliar territory for most people, and it helps to know what to expect. These are the questions we hear most often from property owners across Napa, Solano, and Contra Costa.

Do I need an assessment if I've already done some clearance work?

Probably yes. Clearance is only one part of wildfire defense, and the biggest structural vulnerabilities — vents, roof edges, deck attachments — are rarely addressed by clearance alone. An assessment tells you whether your existing work is enough, and what else matters most.

Cal Fire inspections in Napa, Solano, and Contra Costa are compliance-focused and confirm you meet the minimum legal standard. Our assessments go significantly further, evaluating structural vulnerabilities, water and access infrastructure, and property-specific risks that Cal Fire inspections don’t cover.

Typically a year. Fuel grows back, codes change, and neighboring conditions shift. We recommend annual re-inspections before peak fire season, and offer a discount for returning clients.

No honest assessor would promise that. What we can tell you is where your greatest risks are, what interventions have the strongest track record of protecting properties, and how to give your home or business the best possible chance in a fire event.

Book a consultation call. Many properties are mixed-use or fall between categories, and Kevin can quickly determine the best approach. In some cases it’s a hybrid assessment drawing on multiple specialist frameworks.

Pricing depends on property type, size, and complexity, so we quote after the free consultation call rather than showing a menu price. Each specialist service page will give you a clearer starting range once you know which type fits your property.
